Should I go for this ?

What made this set go so high? I've seen 800's on ebay many times before, but I don't think they've gotten this kind of money. Maybe the obvious willingness to ship with the pictures of the wings all wrapped up? I think that may have been a nod to the shipping container crowd.

Well preserved 803s and H808/802 horns primarily, with them being a complete, functioning [supposedly] set a pretty good perk. Once I experienced the 803's mid-bass on up performance, which very closely matches the early 515 and B series, I lost all interest in 416's relatively 'dull' performance. Ditto the H808 Vs 811, hence my willingness to pay $10 k if I could have scrounged it up, but I imagine I still wouldn't have won them.

Agreed with GM. Its the H808/802B that really drives the price. Look back at the list there I gave of those recent sales. $3000-5000 is not uncommon for them alone.

803B = 416A, so new, same to my ears as 416B, 8B, 8C, so assume GPA's new, re-cone kits are no different.

Yup! The main diff was the 803A used the roll paper surround like the 515 and 604/604B/C. It cracks easily.
The pleated accordion surround was 803B and on.
